From Farm to Fork!!!
This week, the children explored the journey of food from a raw product to a finished good, ready for sale in a shop. To bring the lesson to life, the class gathered blackberries from the field opposite our school and collected some cooking apples.
With these ingredients, they worked together to create delicious apple and blackberry pies. Once baked and cooled, the children carefully packaged their tarts and designed professional style labels. Each label included the place of origin, a list of ingredients, and a best-before date.
The children also learned about the importance of eye-catching labels in attracting customers and making a product stand out on the shelf.
Nothing went to waste, with the leftover apples, the class boiled them up and enjoyed a well earned treat of warm apples and custard.
It was a wonderful hands on learning experience, combining nature, cookery, and business skills — and the results were absolutely delicious!
