Heritage Lesson with Lucy White!

29th May 2026

We were delighted to welcome Lucy White to our school for a wonderful Heritage lesson on the history of wheat. The children thoroughly enjoyed this engaging and hands-on learning experience.

During the lesson, we explored the different types of corn and learned about how they grow. Lucy taught us about the countries where these grains originally came from and how they eventually made their way to Ireland over time.

The children also examined an old mill and discovered the various steps involved in making flour. It was fascinating to learn how flour was traditionally produced in the past.

As part of the workshop, the children made and cooked their own brown soda loaves. Everyone enjoyed tasting their freshly baked bread with butter afterwards!

Overall, it was a very enjoyable, educational and informative lesson. We would like to thank Lucy White for sharing her knowledge and providing such a memorable experience for the children.
