How to Catch a Monster!

10th Oct 2025

This week, the Junior Rooms had an exciting time diving into the story How to Catch a Monster. Inspired by the book, the children set out on a creative adventure of their own!

They began by designing and imagining their very own monsters. With the help of I.T., these ideas were brought to life on screen, giving each monster its own unique personality. The children explored different feelings and emotions, using them to create character traits for their monsters.

In Numeracy, the children worked on the topic of Data. They created bar charts to record and compare different monster features and sequenced their monster stories into timelines, practising important maths skills in a fun and engaging way.

In Science, the focus shifted to materials and strength. The children investigated which materials would be most effective for building a monster trap. In SESE, they put this knowledge into practice, testing out their designs and building their very own monster traps. The fun didn’t stop there—they also created bubbling lava lamps, experimented with making slime, and learned about fascinating Irish mythical creatures, comparing these legends with the monsters they had invented.

To round off their monster-filled week, the children expressed their creativity in Art by producing bright, colourful Frankenstein inspired pieces.
