Today, on World Bee Day, we were delighted to welcome Fiona McCormack from The Farmhouse to our school.
Fiona gave the children a fascinating talk all about bees and beekeeping. The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to examine a real beehive and were especially excited when they spotted the queen bee!
We also enjoyed tasting a variety of delicious honeys, including Spring Honey, Summer Honey, Heather Honey, and Ivy Honey. Fiona explained how each type of honey is made and what makes them unique.
The children learned about honeycomb and discovered how beeswax can be used to make candles. As a special treat, each child received a beautiful beeswax candle to take home.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Fiona for sharing her knowledge with us. It was a wonderful and memorable experience for everyone, and we learned so much about the important role bees play in our world. Happy World Bee Day!
