This week in our Senior Room, the children have been exploring different writing genres with a fun, hands-on project all about conkers!
The class began by investigating conkers and their uses, learning about where they come from and their place in traditional autumn games. They researched the history of playing conkers and discovered how children have enjoyed this simple yet exciting pastime for generations.
Next, everyone got creative, the pupils collected conkers, drilled holes, and threaded string to make their very own conkers to play with. They also researched the official rules of the game and enjoyed putting their knowledge into practice in some friendly conker matches in the classroom and playground.
Afterwards, the children put their learning into words by writing a “How to Play Conkers” piece, following their writing genre guidelines carefully.
